    Course description:
    The reading group will be on the book “The Evolution of Biological Information” by Christoph Adami

    Topics addressed:
    Evolution, information theory in biology, Evolution of Complexity.

    Intended outcomes:
    By the end of the reading group, the participants will have developed a information theoretic perspective of evolutionary processes and the emergence of complexity in natural and artificial environments

    Reading list:
    “The Evolution of Biological Information” Christoph Adami, 2024.

    Programme:
    Each week a chapter of the book will be discussed which participants will have previously read and worked on their own.  

    Prerequisites:
    Familiarity with evolutionary computation and having read the first 2 chapters of the book as 
    preparation.

    Assessment:
    Assessment will be based on active participation each week.
    Each participant will facilitate each of the chapters by preparing a small presentation serving as the backbone of the week’s discussion.

    Credits:
    2 ECTS

    Number of hours the student is expected to use on the course:
    Participation: 14 hours
    Preparation: 44 hours

    Participants: 
    In order to have room for everyone to be involved in discussion each week, we will limit participation to 10 participants (if there’s more interest a new format will be conceived for the next edition).
