Study Environment

The Educational Environment Act

According to the Educational Environment Act, all students at Danish universities are entitled to a good educational environment meaning the education takes place in a safe and sound way. The educational environment at schools and educational institutions is meant to improve the participants’ possibilities of development and learning. The Act thus includes the physical, psychological and aesthetic aspect of the educational environment.

How do we work with study and educational environment at the IT University?

At the IT University, we are dedicated to and working hard on mapping problems in the educational and the study environment.

ITU’s regular Study Environment Assessment uses data from the The Danish Study Survey (Danmarks Studieundersøgelse) a survey carried out by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Moreover, the assessment is based on data from a series of questions on the study environment designed by the The Danish Centre for Educational Environment.

The latest assessment was conducted in Autumn 2023. You can find the report with ITU results here: ITU results from the Danish Student Survey 2023 1 pdf

What is a Study Environment Assessment?

A Study Environment Assessment is a survey on the students' physical, psychological and aesthetic study environment. It is a legal requirement that all educational institutions prepare a written study environment assessment at least every three years.

The study environment assessment must contain at least four elements:

  • Mapping the physical, psychological and aesthetic study environment

  • Description and assessment of problems

  • Preparation of action plans

  • Follow-up guidelines for action plans

It is a requirement that the students are involved in the work. The requirement of involvement also means that the students have a co-responsibility for providing and maintaining a good study environment.

The purpose of the Evaluation

The purpose of the evaluation is to show where the educational environment can be improved. At the IT University the Board of Studies coordinates the follow up of the results regarding study environment from the Learning Questionnaire. Students are involved through the Study Board, the Subject Area Teams, Student Council and other relevant groups of students.
