ITU  /  Programmes  /  Applying for a BSc Programme  /  Apply as a former student

Apply as a former student

If you have previously been a student at ITU or another university, special rules apply to being admitted. You can read about them here and see what documentation you need for your application.

When you have found your required information, follow the step-by-step guide for either European applicants or Non-European applicants.

Mandatory credit transfer assessment

If you have previously passed university courses (not from a vocational academy or professional/university college) without completing the degree, you are obligated to inform us in order to make a mandatory credit transfer assessment.

You need to enclose these documents in your application:

  • Transcript of records/grades from previous enrolment
  • Course descriptions for the passed courses.

If we offer you admission and we can transfer credits to your new enrolment, you will be notified.

You cannot decline the credit transfer.

Re-admission

You have withdrawn from the university yourself

If you have completed less than 1 academic year (60 ECTS) of the same study programme you are applying for and have withdrawn from the program yourself, you must apply for admission again via Optagelse.dk.

If you have withdrawn at a time when your enrolment would have been terminated by the university anyway, you must apply for re-admission in the same way as if the university had already terminated your enrolment (see section below).

The application deadline for re-admission is 15 March at 12 noon CET.

Read below about the 5-month rule.

The university has terminated your enrolment (requires exemption)

If you have completed less than 1 academic year (60 ECTS) of the same study programme, and your previous enrolment was terminated by the university due to non-compliance with current study regulations (e.g., used exam attempts), you must apply for an exemption along with your application.

In the application, you must describe how your chances of completing the study programme have significantly improved. The assessment of whether your study opportunities have significantly improved can include both academic and health-related conditions. These conditions must be documented.

Please apply for admission via Optagelse.dk and include an exemption application.

The application deadline for re-admission with exemption is 15 March at 12 noon CET.

Read more under the section on exemptions.

Read below about the 5-month rule.

Re-enrolment on 2nd or 3rd academic year

If you have passed courses corresponding to the examinations of the first year (60 ECTS) or more under the valid academic regulations for the specific programme in the same programme you must apply for re-enrolment. The deadline for applying for re-enrolment is 15 March at 12 noon CET.

Please note, it is not possible to re-enrol in a dimensioned programme (BSc in Digital Design and Interactive Technologies). You can read more about how to apply for re-enrolment on ITU Student.

Transfer to 2nd or 3rd academic year

If you have passed the first-year examinations - 60 ECTS or more - at another Danish university equivalent to the current curriculum for the specific programme at the IT University of Copenhagen, you can apply for transfer to the 2nd or 3rd academic year of the programme. Please note, it is not possible to transfer to a dimensioned programme (BSc in Digital Design and Interactive Technologies).

Conditions for transfer

  • You must have passed minimum 60 ECTS corresponding to the entire first year of the programme
  • The minimum 60 ECTS must have been obtained at another Danish university
  • You have to meet the admission requirements for the programme
  • Vacant study places on the programme are a prerequisite
  • You can max. have 120 ECTS transferred to your enrolment at ITU

The application deadline is 15 March at 12 noon CET and you will receive a decision on your application within 4 weeks. Study start is Monday in week 35.

How to apply

Send an email to admission@itu.dk with a request for transfer to the 2nd or 3rd study year of the programme. In the email you must mention which programme you apply for and enclose the following documents:

  • Documentation for the admission requirements for the programme
  • Documentation for your passed exams on your former enrolment at a Danish university. (Transcript of records with both signature and stamp from the university)
  • Course descriptions for your passed courses as pdf-files or links

5 months gap between the enrolments

Minimum 5 months must have passed from your withdrawal to your new enrolment in the same programme again. This means, you must have terminated your enrolment in the programme by 31 March at the latest to be able to enrol in the programme by 1 September the same year.

You should also be aware that your previously passed exams and exam attempts are transferred to your new enrolment if you are offered admission in the programme again.
