Recognition and exemption

Recognition

When you apply for recognition, you must be able to document your corresponding qualifications to the admission requirements you believe you fulfil through alternative educational activities, or the special circumstances that have affected your GPA negatively.

Read the list below of possible reasons for a recognition of corresponding qualifications or special circumstances carefully before applying for recognition.

You must have applied for recognition along with your application for admission before 15 March at 12:00 noon (CET). This applies even if your exam qualifies you for admission through Quota 1.

How to apply for recognition

You must attach your documentation in a single combined PDF file to your application for admission. Read under each reason below how to apply. You do not have to fill out any application form.

Specific admission requirements in Danish, English or Mathematics (corresponding qualifications)

If you do not meet one or more specific admission requirements, you must document corresponding qualifications or higher. You must document that you have acquired corresponding academic skills to compensate for not fulfilling the specific admission requirement through your upper secondary degree.

Please note that if the specific admission requirement consists of both a required level and a required minimum average grade, your qualifications must fulfil both elements.

The application must include:

  • Transcript of records and course descriptions of passed courses.

Upload the documentation in a single combined PDF file as an attachment through Optagelse.dk. Name the document 'Application for recognition: specific admission requirements'.

Please note: The university does not have the legal basis to grant exemptions from the English test requirement for applicants holding an upper secondary school certificate from a country outside the EU/EEA.

General admission requirement (corresponding qualifications)

If you have not completed a qualifying exam, you can apply for an exemption from the general admission requirements if you have acquired academic qualifications corresponding to a Danish upper secondary degree by passing a broad array of subjects at upper secondary level or higher. Furthermore, you must fulfil the specific admission requirements for the study programme.

You must enclose relevant documentation such as:

  • Official diploma(s) proving completed degree(s) at upper secondary level or higher.
  • Transcript of records and course descriptions of passed courses.

Upload the documentation in a single combined PDF file as an attachment through Optagelse.dk. Name the document 'Application for recognition: general admission requirements'.

Please note: We do not consider work experience.

Grade point average (GPA) (special circumstances)

If your grade point average (GPA) has been affected by special circumstances, e.g. illness, you must document special circumstances.

The application must include:
  • Complete grade transcript from your upper secondary degree for each year.
  • Documentation for illness or other special circumstances.

The documentation must show a clear correlation between the special circumstances and the obtained GPA.

A doctor’s note must include the time period of your illness and a professional assessment of how the situation has affected you.

Upload the documentation in a single combined PDF file as an attachment through Optagelse.dk. Name the document 'Application for recognition: GPA'.

Exemptions

When you apply for an exemption, you must be able to document the special circumstances that have meant you do not meet a specific grade requirement or deadline, or that means you should be exempted from the Master's rule.

Read the list of possible reasons for an exemption carefully before applying.

You must have applied for recognition along with your application for admission before 15 March at 12:00 noon (CET). This applies even if your exam qualifies you for admission through Quota 1.

Grade requirements in Danish, English, or Mathematics (special circumstances)

If your grade(s) in English, Danish or Mathematics has/have been affected by special circumstances, e.g. illness, you must document special circumstances.

The application must include:

  • Complete grade transcript(s) from your upper secondary degree for each year.
  • Documentation for illness or other special circumstances.

The documentation must show a clear correlation between the special circumstances and the obtained grades.

A doctor’s note must include the time period of your illness and a professional assessment of how the situation has affected you.

Extension of a deadline (special circumstances)

If you have missed a deadline, you can apply for an exemption if there are special circumstances.

You must send your application for an exemption as soon as possible after the deadline you did not meet.

You must document how the special circumstances (e.g. illness) prevented you from meeting the deadline in question.

Master's rule

The Master’s Rule allows applicants who have completed a Danish or a foreign master's programme to be admitted to a new higher educational programme only in case of vacant study places.

If there are special circumstances, you can apply for an exemption.

You must provide documentation that shows how the special circumstances (e.g. illness) mean that you can no longer use your completed degree within the labour market.

Please note that you must apply for an exemption along with your application for admission latest 15 March at 12:00 noon CET.

How to apply for an exemption

An application for exemption must contain a reason for applying for the exemption and relevant documentation.

  1. Start by telling us what you are applying for an exemption for by filling out this application form no later than 15 March at 12:00 noon (CET).
  2. Upload your explanation and documentation to your application via Optagelse.dk. Name the attachment 'Application for exemption'.
