ITU professor awarded prestigious international honour

Professor Philippe Bonnet has been honoured with The SIGMOD Contributions Award for his research in database systems.

The SIGMOD Contributions Award is one of the world's most prestigious prizes in the field of database systems. It is awarded by the ACM special interest group on the management of data. Philippe Bonnet is honoured for innovative work in the data management community to encourage scientific reproducibility of publications.

Reproducibility is a cornerstone of the scientific method, because it is needed to establish the validity of experimental results and thus assess the robustness of the evidence supporting a theory or a claim. This award recognizes Philippe’s leading position in the area of reproducibility and supports his current position as vice-chair of the ACM emergent interest group on reproducibility which promotes reproducibility throughout all IT disciplines.

Philippe Bonnet is professor in the Department of Computer Science at the IT University of Copenhagen, where he heads the Data-Intensive Systems and Application research group. He shares the award with colleagues from Harvard, New York University, École Polytechnique in Paris and CWI at the national research institute for mathematics and computer science in Amsterdam.

Philippe Bonnet was born in France and holds a PhD from Université de Savoie. He worked at ECRC (Germany), Bull (France), Cornell University (USA) and University of Copenhagen prior to joining the IT University of Copenhagen in 2009.
