Until now, students in the IT University's MSc in Software Development have been able to choose between an Advanced Computing track and a Design track, but from the autumn semester 2018, these tracks will become two independent programs: Computer Science and Software Development.
"The split has been recommended by a panel of employers. With two separate programmes, we can create two clear, distinct profiles, and this will benefit both students and employers," says Peter Sestoft, Head of the Computer Science Department.
The MSc programme in Computer Science builds upon the Advanced Computing track, and the name change is meant to increase comparability with computer science programmes at other Danish universities, explains Peter Sestoft.
There is a huge and unsaturated need for computer science graduates, who are highly attractive not just in the software industry, but in almost every industry as well as in the digitization of the public sector.

"With the Computer Science programme, we are accurately communicating the skills of our most technically oriented candidates to employers. There is a huge and unsaturated need for computer science graduates, who are highly attractive not just in the software industry, but in almost every industry as well as in the digitization of the public sector," he says.
Students in the new programme can choose between different specializations, including Machine Learning, Robotics, Information Security and Software Engineering.
The Computer Science programme accepts students who hold a bachelor's degree in software development, computer science, data science or similar.
Software development for non-technical profiles
The MSc in Software Development is for students from other educational backgrounds who wish to combine, for example, a humanistic or social science bachelor's degree with a technical degree. In this way, students have the opportunity to create a unique profile.
