New annual stats from the Danish Ministry of Higher Education and Science shows, that the IT University of Copenhagen makes all research publications digitally available and free of charge – for the benefit of industry, government, educators and society as a whole.
The goal of the National Strategy for Open Access, published by the ministry in 2018, is that there will be unhindered, digital access to all peer-reviewed research articles from Danish research institutions from 2025 onwards.
The IT University also reached the "100 percent open access" last year and it pleases provost Jens Christian Godskesen to see that ITU still succeed in making the research available:
- It's due to the dedicated efforts of the researchers – and to the administrative units, that support them – that ITU can take pride in this important result. We have carefully designed a quality assurance process to ensure accessiblity of the research articles so that as many as possible can benefit from our excellent research, he says.
The national average this year is at 52 percent, which is an increase of eight percentage points from last year. The 2020 goal of the National Strategy for Open Access was unhindered, digital access to 54 percent of all peer-reviewed research articles. Beside the IT University, two other Danish reached this goal: Technical University of Denmark (DTU) with 73 percent and The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) with 60 percent.
