Digitization is changing the financial sector, with technologies like blockchain and products like MobilePay suggesting that companies need to innovate if they want to keep their customers. To meet this challenge, the sector needs highly skilled IT candidates like those at the IT University. On November 16, twelve companies are coming to meet the highly sought-after IT students at Finance IT Day.
Competence shift
“ITU graduates have some very interesting profiles needed in the financial sector. Skills within software development and digital innovation and design are particularly in demand,” says Mariane Dissing, Director of the Danish Employers Association for the Financial Sector (FA), which is behind the event.
Today, the Danish financial sector employs almost 9,000 IT profiles and Mariane Dissing expects that more will be needed in the future.
“Technological advances have caused a competence shift in the financial sector, which employs an increasing number of people with a higher education within IT. The trend will continue as the financial sector becomes more and more technology-intensive. This means that digital and networking skills are in high demand. Innovative thinking and adaptability are also key skills in the sector,” she says.

Topdanmark is among the companies looking forward to meeting the ITU students. The company is introducing new technology on many fronts, says HR Director Søren Pahl.
“We have to be extremely good at generating automation and creating digital platforms for the customers. Internet of Things is really interesting in the insurance industry, and robotics is at the core of our digital strategy. It's all about getting the existing IT infrastructure to function along with new, modern technologies. We need talented young people to help us with this transition.”
In his view, prospective employees should have an ability to combine their IT skills with a good business sense.
“We really like what ITU stands for – having good analytical skills and an understanding of data, and at the same time being able to translate this into business. We value employees with an outside-in perspective, who can translate technology into something useful for the customers.”
