Two new members appointed for the Board of Directors at the IT University

Tech entrepreneur, Hanne Breddam, and Professor, David Sands, have been appointed new external members of the Board of Directors at the IT University of Copenhagen.

About ITU

Written 30 August, 2023 08:42 by Jari Kickbusch

The appointment committee at IT University of Copenhagen has chosen to offer the two vacant seats on the Board of Directors to tech entrepreneur, Hanne Breddam, and Professor, David Sands. From 1st of October 2023, the two new members will replace Lars Mathiesen and David Basin who had to step down from the board after eight years, which is the maximum number of years allowed for board members.

The two new members

Hanne Breddam is a tech entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience at director level. She’s been the director and owner in BusinessMinds, partner in QVARTZ Analytics, senior adviser in BAIN & Co and recently CCO in IT-Kartellet.

“It’s an honor to be selected for the board. My motivation for applying was partly that I have great respect for ITU and partly that I am very committed and interested in university education, both for young people and in terms of lifelong learning. I look forward to contributing to ITU's further development and operations,” she says.

David Sands is Professor in Computer Science at ChaImers University of Technology (since 2001) where he is Deputy Head of Department and vice head for Research at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Before the IT-University was founded, David Sands was a researcher at DIKU at Copenhagen University, which resulted in a strong connection to and interest in academia in Scandinavia.

”I am very happy to have been selected to serve on the board of ITU, and look forward to sharing my experiences with research strategy and management, and helping ITU to grow and develop in its goals to create value with IT through research, education and outreach. On a more personal note, I'm also looking forward to reconnecting with Danish academia and Copenhagen in particular, where I spent several years as a postdoc,” he says.

Strong profiles

The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Carsten Gomard, has been pleased to see the big interest for the two open board positions and is looking forward to starting the collaboration with the two new board members:

“Hanne Breddam’s achievements as a tech entrepreneur is well-known, not only in Denmark but also internationally. David Sands has a solid academic profile, a lot of experience and because he previously conducted research in Denmark, he is familiar with the Danish research environment. I am convinced that the two profiles will contribute to realise the goals of the ITU’s strategy,” he says.

Members of the Board of Directors per October 1, 2023:

• Carsten Gomard, co-founder of Netcompany
• Kristine Stenhuus, Executive Vice President, Udbetaling Danmark, ATP
• Christina Hvid, CEO, Molio
• David Sands, Professor, Chalmers University
• Hanne Breddam, tech entrepreneur.
• Mircea Lungu, Associate Professor, staff-elected member from the IT University
• Lou Nørgaard Rudd, academic assistant, staff-elected member from the IT University
• Mohammad El Baker Ammar Rehda, student, IT University
• Stefan Roy Friis Frederiksen, student, IT University
