Following an open recruitment process, the ITU Appointments Committee has appointed Thomas Kovsted as a new external member of the Board of Directors of the IT University of Copenhagen, effective from 1 October 2026. Thomas Kovsted succeeds Kristine Steenhus, who is stepping down from the Board after completing the full eight-year term.
Thomas Kovsted is Chief Executive Officer of IBM Denmark. He has had a long career at IBM, holding senior leadership roles across IBM Nordic, IBM Europe, and IBM Global. He also brings extensive board experience from positions with organisations including the Christian Olesen Group, AmCham, DI Digital, and the Tech Committee of the Danish Chamber of Commerce.
“I am delighted that the University’s Board of Directors will be joined by a new member with a strong international outlook and deep insight into the development and implementation of the latest technologies. Thomas Kovsted brings many years of executive and board-level experience, as well as a strong understanding of how new technologies are transforming both society and industry. These are valuable perspectives for the IT University of Copenhagen. It is also highly relevant to the University’s efforts to increase gender diversity across our degree programmes that Thomas Kovsted is strongly committed to increasing the representation of women in the technology sector. I look forward to working with Thomas Kovsted and the rest of the Board to realise the IT University of Copenhagen’s strategy,” says Carsten Gomard, Chair of the Board of the IT University of Copenhagen.
Thomas Kovsted is looking forward to joining the Board and contributing to its work:
“I can contribute technological expertise, leadership experience, and an extensive business network both in Denmark and internationally. I also bring a strong values-based approach and a conviction that values-driven digitalisation will increasingly become Denmark’s strongest competitive advantage. I draw on the latest knowledge from IBM Research, one of the world’s leading industrial research organisations. The insights I gain there can contribute to the IT University of Copenhagen’s strategic work and its ambition to remain at the forefront of technological and research developments.”
