Admission requirements Games

To apply for the MSc in Games you need:

  • A university bachelor's degree or a professional bachelor's degree. It you hold another comparable degree please read more here.
  • English corresponding to B-level with a minimum of 3,0 in grade point average. Please read more here.

The MSc programme in Games have two different tracks. Please read below to find the programme specific admission requirements for each of the tracks.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS GAMES (TECHNOLOGY TRACK)

To apply for admission on the Games Technology Track, you need a bachelor’s degree in computer science, or something equivalent to this. Here you can see a list of bachelor educations, which meet  the admission requirements:

  • Software Development (ITU) - Graduates admitted to the BSc in Software Development (ITU) in 2024 and before have legal rights to Games Technology
  • Softwareteknologi (DTU)
  • Informatik (AAU)
  • Datalogi (KU, SDU, AAU, AU)

Please note that this is not an exclusive list. The list might change, so we advise you to check it continuously.

If you do not have a degree from one of the bachelor educations on the list, but you do have a degree from an equivalent bachelor education, your application must include a list of the courses you have had that are equivalent to the courses listed below:

  • Programming and algorithms (minimum 30 ECTS)
  • Discrete Mathematics and/or courses in vector mathematics (minimum 5 ECTS)
  • One course on data (e.g., databases, data-oriented programming, statistics) (minimum 5 ECTS)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS GAMES (DESIGN TRACK)

When we assess your application for the MSc in Games (Design Track) it is an advantage if you have taken one of the courses below or studied one of the BSc programmes.

Bachelor programmes:

  • Global Business Informatics (ITU), in some cases this education will give legal rights.
  • Digital design & interaktive teknologier (ITU), in some cases this education will give legal rights.
  • Digital Media & Design (ITU), in some cases this education will give legal rights.
  • Informationsvidenskab (AU, SDU)
  • Medialogi (AAU)
  • Kunst og teknologi (AAU)
  • Interaktionsdesign (AAU)
  • Digital design -it, æstetik og interaktion (AU)
  • Visual Design and Interaction (KADK)

Courses:

  • User-centred design (minimum 15 ECTS)
  • Game design (minimum 15 ECTS)
  • Interaction design (minimum 15 ECTS)
  • Creative media studies (minimum 15 ECTS)
  • At least one practical design project, game-related research project or games project (minimum 15 ECTS)

HOW TO APPLY WITH A BSC FROM THE IT UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN

If you have studied a bachelor's programme at ITU, you will have direct access (called legal right) to a MSc programmes. You must still apply before the deadline 1 March, but you need not upload any application material.

Which MSc programme you have legal right for, depends on when you were admitted to your bachelor's programme. Read more here.

If you have studied a BSc programme at ITU, which does not give legal right, you can apply on equal footing with applicants who have not studied a BSc from ITU. Find more information in the section below.

Please note, if you have previously been enrolled on a master level programme, without completing, it is your duty to upload a transcript together with course descriptions for the courses you passed (links or scanned documents). We must assess whether to give you a starting credit transfer on the basis of what you passed.

HOW TO APPLY IF YOU HAVE NOT STUDIED A BSC AT THE IT UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN

To be able to apply for the MSc programme in Games you need to upload the following application material:

  • Portfolio - a selection of 3-5 descriptions of practical or analytical projects that you have done alongside your studies. These can for example be games, essays, pieces of code, or design projects. If the work was created in a group, please outline your personal contribution. The portfolio must be sent as one PDF file with a table of contents in English (the content does not need to be in English). The PDF-file should have a maximum size of 10 MB.
  • Please fill in this form of compliance with specific admission requirements. Please attach the official course descriptions and/or links to the course descriptions, when filling in the form of compliance. In addition, the number of ECTS awarded is important. Here is the form of compliance in word.
  • Please fill in a Statement of Purpose. The Statement of Purpose must be written in English.

HOW WE EVALUATE YOUR APPLICATION

All applications that meet the admission requirements for the programme will be looked through and assessed based on an overall evaluation, which is based on the following:

  • The grade point average from your bachelor education (counts for 50% of the overall evaluation)
  • Your qualifications as seen in your portfolio, previous studies and your Statement of Purpose (counts for 50% of the overall evaluation)
