Employees with updated skills within IT hot topics like software development, digital, big data and IT management are high on the wish list among Danish companies. However, a lack of time and formal education present barriers for some IT professionals who want to pursue further education. With the new course concept ITU Professional Courses, the IT University of Copenhagen now offers IT specialists an opportunity to boost their skills within specific topics with short, targeted courses.
The new intensive courses run over 1-5 days. With no formal entry requirements, participants will not receive ECTS credits. The courses target the many IT professionals who, for various reasons, are not able to follow a single subject or complete a postgraduate programme.
- People who do not have time to do an entire semester will be able to take compact courses that boost their knowledge. These courses will show how to solve specific challenges many companies are facing, for instance in relation to data mining, digitalisation and IT security. For example, many companies could significantly benefit from big data using some fairly basic techniques, but do not know how to approach it, says Jens Christian Godskesen, Head of Department at ITU.
High academic standards
He stresses that the new intensive courses will have the same high academic standards as ITU’s other professional education courses. Classes will be taught by both experienced external lecturers who are specialists in their field and ITU's own researchers, who are passionate about communicating their research to an external audience. The courses will take place outside normal working hours on evenings and weekends.
The first ITU Professional Course is a four-day course in digital leadership (in Danish) starting April 30.
