Application and tuition fees
Applicants from countries outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) are charged application and tuition fees.
Below you can read about the fee rates, payment methods and exemptions.
Application fee
The application fee is EUR 150 (approx. DKK 1,125) when you apply for one or more master’s degree programmes in the same application round at the IT University.
Please pay the application fee of EUR 150 (approx. DKK 1,125) and upload a copy of your receipt alongside your application. Your application will not be assessed until the Admissions Office receives the payment.

Refund policy
- If you are admitted at one of our programmes, the application fee will be deducted from your first tuition payment.
- The fee is non-refundable if your application is unsuccessful or if you decline an admission offer.
- Once you submit your application, the fee cannot be refunded—even if you cancel later.
- Refunds are only possible if:
- You paid the fee but did not submit any application, or
- You paid the fee even though you are exempt.

If you hold one of the following residence permits, you are exempted from paying the tuition fee:
Permanent residence permit - Permanent residence permit ("Tidsubegrænset/permanent opholdstilladelse")
- Permanent residence permit in another Nordic country (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands). It only applies if you, while studying, continue to live in the country where you have a residence permit.
Temporary residence with possibility of achieving permanent - Temporary residence permit with the possibility of achieving a permanent residence permit ("Tidsbegrænset opholdstilladelse mmf. eller mhp. varigt ophold")
Accompanying child - Residence permit in as an accompanying child ("medfølgende barn")
Refugees and foreigners with protection status - Residence permit as a convention refugee incl. family members ("Opholdstilladelse som konventionsflygning", jf. udlændingelovens § 7, stk. 1, og § 8, stk. 1)
- Residence permit as a foreigner with protection status incl. family members ("Opholdstilladelse som udlændinge med beskyttelsesstatus", jf. udlændingelovens § 7, stk. 2, og § 8, stk. 2)
- Residence permit as a foreigner with temporary protection status incl. family members ("Opholdstilladelse som udlændinge med midlertidig beskyttelsesstatus", jf. udlændingelovens § 7, stk. 2, og § 8, stk. 2)
EU / EEA regulation - Residence permit according to the EU / EEA regulations ("EU-opholdsbekendtgørelsen")
Citizens of Ukraine - Residence permit under the Special Act on displaced persons from Ukraine
Citizens of EU / EEA / Switzerland - Citizens of EU / EEA / Switzerland do not have to pay the tuition fee.
If you have one of the above residence permits that may exempt you from paying application fee, it is very important that you upload the following documentation when you apply:
- A scan of your residence permit letter
- A scan of your residence permit card (both front and back page)
- A scan of the page in your passport showing your residence permit
You must pay application fee
- If you are a non-EU/EEA citizen and you are in process of applying for one of the above residence permits, but you have not yet obtained one.
- If you have permanent residence permit in another EU/EEA country than Denmark or the Nordic countries*.
*Please note, if you have permanent residence permit in another Nordic country (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands) and you continue to live in the specific country during your studies, you are exempted from paying application fee.
Tuition fee
For applicants admitted in 2026, the tuition fees is EUR 8,250 (approx. DKK 61,650) and is paid twice a year in advance of each semester. In total, EUR 33,000 (approx. DKK 246,600) for a two year full-time master's programme.
Applicants with citizenship in a country outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) will be charged tuition fees.
The following groups of students are not charged any tuition fees at the IT University of Copenhagen:
- Students with citizenship in countries within the EU/EEA
- Swiss citizens
- Students on bilateral exchange programmes (e.g. Erasmus. Check with the international office at your own university)
- US students with a Fulbright scholarship
If you hold one of the following residence permits, you are exempted from paying the tuition fee:

Citizens of EU / EEA / Switzerland - Citizens of EU / EEA / Switzerland do not have to pay the tuition fee.
For applicants admitted in 2026, the tuition fees is EUR 8,250 (approx. DKK 61,650) and is paid twice a year in advance of each semester. In total, EUR 33,000 (approx. DKK 246,600) for a two year full-time master's programme.
The tuition fees must be paid twice a year: 5 January and 5 August. The deadline for paying the tuition fee for the first semester of a programme is in June. The fee cannot be paid in instalments.

Payment is only possible in Danish Kroner (DKK) or Euro (EUR).
Note that the IT University grants a scholarship to three or four exceptionally talented MSc applicants from non-EU/EEA countries. See more under Scholarships.
If you accept an offer of admission to a master's programme, we will send you an invoice with more information about the tuition fee payment.

The Danish Immigration Service will ask tuition fee paying students to demonstrate funds before issuing a residence permit.

Students paying tuition are encouraged to follow their study programme.
You must pay full tuition no matter how many courses you register for
One full-time semester counts for 30 ECTS. You can register up to 37,5 ECTS (projects and/or courses).
If you register for less than 30 ECTS per semester, you must also pay full tuition.
Extend your study time with two semesters
You have the right to extend your study time for two semesters without paying extra tuition fee, as payment for the full-time master’s programme have been paid. Make sure to contact admission@itu.dk if this becomes relevant for you.
We must notify Immigration Services
The IT University is obligated to notify Immigration Services if you are delayed with more than 60 ECTS in your studies. We must also notify Immigration Services if you are on leave or you are absent due to illness or pregnancy.
The IT University will only reimburse the tuition fee in the following cases:
- If you withdraw from the programme before the end of week 34 (autumn term) or week 4 (spring term)
- If you obtain a residence permit or citizenship exempting you from paying tuition fee. The validity date of the residence permit or citizenship must be latest 31 August or 31 January for the coming semester.
- If you are conditionally admitted but do not meet the conditional requirements
- If the Immigration Services rejects your application for a residence permit
Please note that you will not be reimbursed for the semester that has started if your enrolment is cancelled due to failed exams.

NB: Your bank may retain a service fee when processing the reimbursement. The recipient/student will bear all the transaction fees.Every year the IT University of Copenhagen offers state scholarships to three or four exceptionally talented MSc applicants (full-degree students) citizens in countries outside EU and EEA. The scholarships will be offered to the applicants who achieves the best scores based on an overall evaluation of the applications.The state scholarships consist of free tuition and partly coverage of living expenses.
Applicants cannot apply for the scholarships. The IT University considers all admitted MSc students for the scholarships and informs the students chosen for the scholarships in their letter of admission.
Please note that if you receive a scholarship, you will have to follow and pass full time studies.

How to document your residence permit
If you have a residence permit that exempt you from paying tuition fees, it is very important that you upload the following documentation with your application:
- A scan of your residence permit letter
- A scan of your residence permit card (both front and back page)
- A scan of the page in your passport showing your residence permit
Based on the documentation we will grant or deny exemption from paying tuition fee.
If you are exempted from paying tuition fee, you must meet the deadlines applicable to EU/EEA applicants.
Students with foreign diplomas
Translation of diplomas
Foreign diplomas that are neither in English nor in one of the Scandinavian languages must be translated into Danish or English by the educational institution, an authorized translator or a public authority.
Presenting original diploma in person
Newly admitted students must appear in person to present their original diploma to the admission team.
