    PhD Course - Databases on Future Hardware

    Course Description: 
    The seminar is organised around a Dagstuhl seminar to take place on March 5-10th on the topic of Database Systems on Future Hardware. The seminar consists in weekly presentations based on articles written by participants of the seminar.

    Programme:
    The programme is based on 10 sessions:

    • Data management with Heterogeneous Cores

    • Programming memory controllers and leveraging Transactional Memories

    • FPGA-based Databases

    • Lessons from Software-Defined Networks

    • Cache-efficient Data Processing

    • Code generation for database operations

    • Domain-specific languages for data management

    • Next generation systems from CIDR

    • Energy-efficient database systems

    • Indexing and recovery with Persistent Memories

    Prerequisites:
    Students should have a good background in database systems.

    Exam: 
    Portfolio of slides based on 6 of the papers read during the seminar.

     

    Credits:
    2.5 ECTS

    Participation: 2h/week
    Preparation: 5h/week
