• International examination assessed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Science as comparable to a qualifying Danish upper secondary school certificate 

• If your qualifying exam is an International Baccalaureate (IB), the application deadline is 15 March, 12:00 noon (CET), even though the IB is completed in Denmark and regardless of which quota you apply for.
• If you complete the IB the same year as you apply for admission at the BSc programme at the IT University, you have to instruct and allow your IB coordinator to sign you up to IBIS (IB Information System). You have to give this permission to your IB coordinator by 1 May at the latest. Remember to ask for a receipt in order to be able to document the registration to IBIS subsequently. For the registration, you need the institution code of the IT University, which is 003934.

If you are not sure whether you meet the admission requirements, we can make a pre-assessment of your academic qualifications prior to your application for admission. From 1 October to 15 December we make pre-assessments. Send an email to sap@itu.dk with a pre-assessment request and enclose the following documentation:

• Application form for pre-assessment
• A scan of your upper secondary school certificate (diploma and transcript of records)
• A verification form filled in, signed and stamped by your school
• A scan of documentation for higher education (if you have started/completed a higher education programme)
• A scan of an approved English test with the required test result (if you have taken an English test by now)

Please note, a pre-assessment is an assessment and not a guarantee for admission.

If you do not meet the specific admission requirements, it may be possible for you to take the relevant subject again to achieve a better grade or upgrade a subject to a higher level, depending on the possibilities in your home country. In Denmark supplementary courses are offered by VUC and the teaching language is typically Danish. Please see the sections 'Mathematics B and Mathematics A','English language requirement' and 'Danish A requirement' for further information.

If taking a supplementary course is a possibility for you, and you are unable to complete the course by July 5, you must instead document that you are attending a summer supplementary course or completing an English test during the summer (see the section 'Summer supplementary courses - conditional admission').

Please note, this is an opportunity for applicants exempted from paying tuition fee only.

Conditional admission means that if we offer you enrolment, this is given that you submit documentation for fulfilling the admission requirements through a supplementary course or an English test during the summer. The final admission happens when you have passed the supplementary course with the required academic level and average grade or the English test with the required test result and submitted documentation for this no later than September 1.

To be granted conditional admission, you must submit:

• Documentation for your enrolment in a supplementary course or English test no later than July 5, 12:00 noon (CET)

Please note: If you are granted conditional admission, your opportunity for admission to any programme that you have prioritized lower in your KOT application will lapse.

If you do not meet the specific admission requirements, it may be possible for you to take the relevant subject again to achieve a better grade or upgrade a subject to a higher level, depending on the possibilities in your home country.

Supplementary courses in Denmark:
In Denmark supplementary courses are offered by VUC. Please note, the teaching language is typically Danish.
Niels Brock sometimes offers a supplementary course in Mathematics B in English. Read more at the web page of Niels Brock. 

Moreover, Solrød Gymnasium offers Cambridge AS/A-levels courses in Mathematics corresponding to a Danish B and A-level in Mathematics. The exams are held in November and June, but as a private candidate you cannot follow the teaching, only participate in the exam. Please note, if you participate in the June exam, the registration deadline at Solrød Gymnasium is February 1 and you need to inform us about it, since we register this as a summer supplementary course. In case we offer you admission, it is conditional admission and you need to send us the certificate by September 1 at the latest (see the section 'Summer supplementary course - conditional admission'). For further information about registration, payment, and other details please contact Solrød Gymnasium. 

Online supplementary courses:
University of Amsterdam offers 2 online courses in Mathematics; Mathematics A (which corresponds to Danish Mathematics B) and Mathematics B (which corresponds to Danish Mathematics A). To meet the grade requirement of 6.0 on the Danish scale, you need to achieve at least the grade 7.0 for the exam. For further information, please visit the web page of University of Amsterdam.

If you hold an upper secondary school certificate from a non-EU/EEA country, you must submit test scores from an English test (except if you hold an upper secondary exam from the following English speaking countries: USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland, or Ireland).

The following English tests meet the English requirement:

• TOEFL paper-based test result of at least 600
• TOEFL iBT test result of at least 100 
• TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition test result of at least 100 (for the 2023 intake only)
• IELTS (academic) test result of at least 7.0 
• IELTS Online (academic) test result of at least 7.0 (for the 2023 intake only)
• Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) passed
• Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) with min. 167

Test results more than two years old per July 5 are not considered. Please note, time limitation does not apply to CPE and CAE.

To meet the Danish A requirement for Global Business Informatics, you must pass 'Studieprøven i Dansk' with the following results:

• 02 (7-point scale) or 6 (13-scale) in each of the tests: written presentation (skriftlig fremstilling), reading comprehension (læseforståelse), and oral communication (mundtlig kommunikation)

Alternatively, you meet the Danish A requirement in case: 

• You have completed an upper secondary school certificate from one of the Nordic countries and passed Danish, Swedish, or Norwegian 
• You have completed an upper secondary school certificate from Faroe Islands and passed Faroese A
• You have completed an International Baccalaureate (IB) and passed either "Danish A1, Standard Level", "Danish A Literature, Standard Level', or "Danish B Higher Level". Please note, "Danish B, Standard Level" and 'Danish ab initio" does not meet the Danish A requirement 
• You have graduated from a short or a medium-term higher education in Danish 
• For Global Business Informatics only: if you have passed the final exam in Danish in the primary school, or you have achieved the graduation certificate from Danes World Wide

We assess the level and grade(s) in Mathematics and English from your upper secondary school certificate and convert it into Danish levels and grades. Remember to enclose a verification form if the amount of teaching hours of 60 minutes in Mathematics and English is not stated on the diploma/transcript of record.

Please note, if you want to include Mathematics related university courses in the assessment of the specific admission requirement in Mathematics, you have to apply for an exemption before the deadline March 15 (see the section 'Exemption'). Alternatively, you may also do a supplementary course (see the section 'Mathematics B and Mathematics A').

The specific admission requirement in English may be met by submitting one of the approved English tests with the required test result (see the section 'English language requirement).

Indicative GPA from 2022 intake.
Please note, the GPA in quota 1 changes from year to year. 

• Data Science: 8.8
• Global Business Informatics: 8.0
• Software Development: 7.9 
• Digital Design and Interactive Technologies: 8.0

In quota 1 the assessment of your application is based on your grade point average (GPA) only. If your upper secondary school certificate qualifies for quota 1, the IT University will calculate your grade point average (GPA) and convert it to the Danish 7-point marking scale. 

On the web page of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science you will find an overview of international exams qualifying for quota 1. Unfortunately, the overview is presented in Danish. 

In quota 2, the assessment of your application is subject to an overall evaluation of your grades, qualifications, and suitability to study. Your grades in English and Mathematics (50 %) as well as your cover letter (50 %) are included in the evaluation. From these, the IT University assesses your possibility of completing the programme with a satisfactory result.

We automatically assess your application in quota 1, too, if your exam qualifies for admission in quota 1.

• You have or are going to complete a foreign qualifying exam
• You have previously completed a MSc degree 
• You apply for an exemption
• If you are a former ITU student and must apply for an exemption to apply for re-admission

In the cover letter you have to point out your personal motivation for choosing to study Data Science. It should also include your thoughts on your own qualifications and experiences and how they may be valuable in this particular programme. Overall, we would like information about why you wish to study this specific bachelor programme, why you are eligible to study this programme and if you have any areas you wish to work with in the future. A key word is that the information is specific rather than general and relates to Data Science. The cover letter must be written in English and be of maximum one A4 page.

If you have not completed a qualifying exam, you need to argue how you meet the general admission requirement by other passed study activities. You must enclose relevant documentation, for instance:

• Diploma for alternative completed degree or certificate of competence
• Transcript of records and course descriptions for passed higher education courses

Please note: We do not consider work experience.

If you think your grade point average (GPA) has been affected by special circumstances, you need to describe the special circumstances and how they have affected your GPA. A special circumstance is; unpredictable conditions which you have not been able to adjust to or take into consideration. For instance:

• Accident
• Sudden illness – physical or psychologically
• Sudden flare-up/aggravation of former known illness
• A disability, which has been diagnosed during or after the qualifying exam
• Death in the immediate family (children, spouse/cohabiting, siblings, parents, in rare cases grandparents)

You must enclose relevant documentation, for instance:

• Grades from your upper secondary school for each year
• Doctor’s note, which includes a time indication of the period, the professional assessment of how the situation has affected you
• Medical record for long-lasting illness
• Police report
• Death certificate/doctor’s note/documentation for long-lasting/terminal illness in the immediate family
• Specialist statement concerning test of dyslexia

If you do not meet one or more specific admission requirements, you need to argue how you meet the requirement(s) by corresponding qualifications. You must enclose relevant documentation, for instance:

• Transcript of records and course descriptions from higher education courses

If you think your grades in Danish, English, or Mathematics have been affected by special circumstances, you need to describe the special circumstances and how they have affected your grade(s). If you have previously been enrolled in the study programme you apply for, but your enrolment has been terminated by ITU, you must describe why the enrolment was terminated and argue how your situation has changed for you to be able to study again and complete the study programme this time. You must enclose relevant documentation, for instance:

• Doctor’s note with a time indication of the period and the doctor’s assessment of how the situation affected your abilities to study back then and in which extend you are affected by it now

• Transcript of records if you have passed courses at another study programme after the termination of enrolment at ITU

The Master’s Rule allows applicants who have completed a Danish or a foreign master's programme to be admitted to a new higher educational programme only in case of vacant study places. Normally, we have no vacant study places at the IT University of Copenhagen.

In special cases if you are no longer able to work within the field of the completed programme, the university can exempt you from the rule. Please note, you have to apply by March 15 and enclose a motivational cover letter, if you have previously completed a MSc degree.

If you have passed a deadline, you must explain how special circumstances have prevented you from meeting the deadline. You must enclose relevant documentation, for instance:

• Doctor’s note with a time indication of the period, which prevented you from meeting the deadline

An application for exemption must include a description of what you apply for and why along with relevant documentation.

If you want to apply for exemption, you have upload the application for exemption it to your application along with documentation. Please call it 'Application for exemption'. You receive written feedback on your application in June, if you have applied by March 15. 

You must use this application form for exemption. 

If you have passed less than the first year examinations (60 ECTS) in the same programme, which you have withdran from and you have not failed to meet a study activity requirement, you must apply anew through the application portal Optagelse.dk.

If you have passed less than the first year examinations (60 ECTS) in the same programme and you have been administratively withdrawn by the university, you have to apply anew through the application portal on Optagelse.dk. You must enclose an application for exemption and apply by March 15 at 12 noon CET. We can approve your application for exemption if we assess that your possibilities to complete the programme have improved or the programme has changed significantly. Please note that a exemption does not guarantee you admission, but only that your application for admission is included in the final assessment.

If you have passed courses corresponding to the first year examinations (60 ECTS) or more under the valid academic regulations for the specific programme in the same programme you must apply for re-enrolment. The deadline for applying for re-enrolment is March 15 at 12 noon CET. Please note, it is not possible to re-enrol in a dimensioned programme (BSc DDIT). You can read more about how to apply for re-enrolment on ITU Student.

If you have passed the first year examinations (60 ECTS) or more under the valid academic regulations for the specific programme at another institution you can apply for transfer to the 2nd or 3rd study year of the programme at the IT University of Copenhagen. Please note, it is not possible to transfer to a dimensioned programme (DDIT).

Conditions for transfer

• you must have passed minimum 60 ECTS corresponding to the entire first year of the programme 
• you have to meet the admission requirements for the programme 
• ·vacant study places on the programme are a prerequisite
• you can max. have 60 ECTS transferred to your enrolment at ITU

The application deadline is March 15 at 12 noon CET and you will receive a decision on your application within 4 weeks. Study start is Monday in week 35. 

How to apply 
Send an email to sap@itu.dk with a request for transfer to the 2nd or 3rd study year of the programme. In the email you have to mention which programme you apply for and enclose the following documents:

• documentation for the admission requirements for the programme 
• documentation for your passed exams on your former enrolment, that is transcript of records with both signature and stamp from the educational institution 
• course descriptions for the passed courses, that is pdf-files or links

Minimum 5 months must have passed from your withdrawal to your new enrolment in the same programme again. This means, you have to terminate your enrolment in the programme by April 1 at the latest to be able to enrol in the programme by September 1 the same year. You also have to be aware that your previously passed exams and exam attempts are transferred to your new enrolment, if you are offered admission in the programme again.

Who needs to pay the application fee?
You must pay the application fee if you are a non-EU citizen, unless you hold one of the Danish residence permits listed below.
The application fee is 750 DKK (app. 100 EURO) when you apply for one or more bachelor’s degree programmes in the same application round at the IT University of Copenhagen. 

Exemptions for paying the application fee
If you hold one of the following residence permits, you are exempted from paying the application fee:

• Permanent residence permit ("Permanent opholdstilladelse")
• Permanent residence permit in another Nordic country (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands) and you continue to live in the specific country during your studies
• Temporary residence permit with the possibility of achieving a permanent residence permit ("Midlertidig opholdstilladelse m.m.f. varigt ophold")
• Residence permit in as an accompanying child ("medfølgende barn")
• Residence permit as a convention refugee incl. family members ("Opholdstilladelse som konventionsflygning", jf. udlændingelovens § 7, stk. 1, og § 8, stk. 1)
• Residence permit as a foreigner with protection status incl. family members ("Opholdstilladelse som udlændinge med beskyttelsesstatus", jf. udlændingelovens § 7, stk. 2, og § 8, stk. 2)
• Residence permit as a foreigner with temporary protection status incl. family members ("Opholdstilladelse som udlændinge med midlertidig beskyttelsesstatus", jf. udlændingelovens § 7, stk. 2, og § 8, stk. 2)
• Residence permit according to the EU/EEA regulations ("EU-opholdsbekandgørelsen")
• Residence permit under the Special Act on displaced persons from Ukraine

If you are in the process of applying for one of the above residence permits, but you have not yet obtained one, you must pay the application fee.

If you have one of the above residence permits that exempt you, it is very important that you upload documentation for it when you apply on optagelse.dk.

EU/EEA residence permits
If you are a non-EU citizen with permanent residence in another EU/EEA country, you are not exempt from paying the application fee or the tuition fees.

Who do not need to pay the application fee?
EU/EEA citizens do not have to pay the application fee.

Payment

• The application fee is 750 DDK (app. 100 EURO).
• Please pay the application fee before you upload your application on www.optagelse.dk. Your application will not be assessed until the Admissions Office has established that the application fee has been paid.

Refund policy

• If your application is successful, the application fee will be deducted from the first tuition fee payment that you make to the IT University of Copenhagen.
• If your application is unsuccessful, or if your application is successful but you choose not to accept the admission offer, a refund will not be given.
• A direct refund of the application fee is only possible if you have made one or more payments of the application fee without having submitted the relevant number of applications, or if you have paid the application fee even though you are exempt from it. Once you have submitted an application, you are liable for the application fee, even if you cancel the application. This means that if you pay the application fee, but change your mind about applying, you can only get a refund if you have not yet submitted the application. If you wish to request a refund, please contact sap@itu.dk.

Non-EU and non-EEA students are required to pay a tuition fee when studying in Denmark. That is, students from countries outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) are charged tuition fees. EU and EEA citizens are not required to pay a tuition fee when studying in Denmark. 

The tuition fees are payable by biannual installments in advance of each semester, i.e. DKK 50,000 (price per January 2023). Be aware that the tuition fee may change. Information on tuition fee is updated every January.

Conditional admission is not an option for applicants paying tuition fee. 

You may be exempted from paying a tuition fee if you have one of the following residence permits in Denmark:

• Permanent residence permit ("Permanent opholdstilladelse")
• Permanent residence permit in another Nordic country (Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands) and you continue to live in the specific country during your studies
• Temporary residence permit with the possibility of achieving a permanent residence permit ("Midlertidig opholdstilladelse m.m.f. varigt ophold")

If you hold one of the exempted residence permits, you have to enclose documentation for this. Based on the documentation submitted, the Student Affairs and Programmes will grant or deny exemption. We accept the following documentation:

• A scan of your residence permit letter 
• A scan of your residence permit card (both front and back page)
• A scan of the page in your passport showing your residence permit

Please note that no scholarships are available for BSc students at the IT University.
