Thore Husfeldt, Yvonne Dittrich and Carsten Schürmann are appointed as professors by the IT University of Copenhagen. Until October 1, 2019, they were all Associate Professors at the university.
Their research areas cover a wide range of the field within Computer Science from algorithms and software engineering to digital democracy.
Thore Husfeldt: Algorithms Explained
Professor Thore Husfeldt’s research area is algorithms.
In his inaugural lecture, he offers an insight into how algorithms have developed and how they changed society from an analog past until today where complicated algorithms are permanent residents in everyone’s pocket. Furthermore, he will address how the approach to the field has developed from correctness and efficiency to also include values such as privacy and fairness.
Thore Husfeldt holds a PhD in Data Science from Aarhus University. Since 2008, Thore Husfeldt has been an Associate Professor at ITU. In 2012 he was appointed as Professor by Lund University.
Carsten Schürmann: Trust, Security and Technology in the Digital Democracy
Professor Carsten Schürmann’s research is in the field of information security, digitalization in elections and trust.
His research made headlines around the world in 2017 when, during a hacking conference in Las Vegas, Carsten Schürmann demonstrated how to hack an American voting machine. Trust in the digital democracy is also the topic of Carsten Schürmann’s inaugural lecture. He will explore the relationship between mathematics, technology and the social contract that digital democracies are built upon.
Prior to joining ITU in 2005, Carsten Schürmann was an Assistant Professor at the Computer Science Department at Yale University. He holds a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University.
Yvonne Dittrich: The Social Side of Software Engineering
Cooperation and communication are focal points in Professor Yvonne Dittrich’s research.
She contributes to the field of software engineering with new methods that build on approaches from social science. Yvonne Dittrich has been part of establishing Cooperative and Human Aspects of Software Engineering as a research area in software engineering.
Professor Yvonne Dittrich is coordinating in the research group Software Engineering at ITU. She is a former Associate Professor at Blekinge Institute of Technology in Sweden. She received a PhD in Computer Science from Hamburg University.
