The university's three Heads of Department nominated Jørgen Staunstrup for the appointment, which was announced in connection with ITU's annual party on Friday, September 29, 2017.
As Honorary Professor, Jørgen Staunstrup will contribute to the university's technical IT education programmes and research. He will also help to promote IT education in Denmark and contribute to attracting even more qualified students to ITU. In addition, Jørgen Staunstrup, with his expansive academic and political network, will help to build ITU's external relations.
“I am very happy that Jørgen's deep professional competence and broad interest in promoting IT will now benefit ITU and society in general through this appointment. I am proud that he will be associated with us as an Honorary Professor," says Peter Sestoft, Head of the Computer Science Department.
Jørgen Staunstrup was Pro-Rector at ITU from 2006-2015. Today, he is Head of ITU Professional courses, which offers short courses, and a part-time lecturer in app development. In addition, Jørgen Staunstrup is responsible for a new training program in informatics for high school teachers. Increasing ITU’s efforts in high schools will be a focus area when Jørgen Staunstrup enters into his new role.
"We have an obligation to share the knowledge developed at the university, also in other levels of the education system. This has not previously been a priority because there have been so many other tasks to solve in the first many years of ITU's history, but I am really glad that we now have the opportunity to solve that part of our societal responsibility, because it is important," says Jørgen Staunstrup.
