ITU creatives bridge the gap to the industry
The new student organization ITU Designers is bringing together students from all ITU study programmes to help students expand their portfolio and build their knowledge of the industry.

Like so many other good ideas, it all began in the university’s student bar. This was where Martin Danty, a Digital Design and Communication student, one day fell into conversation with a group of fellow students from the software development programme. Like him, they were interested in design and dabbled in freelance design projects in their spare time. The meeting inspired Martin to bring together all ITU students with an interest in interested in design.
- Many students would like a hands-on approach to design to supplement the theory we learn in our programmes. The idea behind ITU Designers is to create a forum where we can test some things in practice.
Some of the organisation’s activities involve building practical design skills and creating a portfolio to show to potential employers. For instance, the group is planning to organise feedback sessions where members give each other’s designs constructive criticism.
Connecting with the industry
Another goal of the organisation is to build connections to the industry - not least in order to bring the skills of ITU students to the attention of potential future employers.
- As ITU students, we are very good at cooperating and our designs are grounded in underlying theoretical principles. We never start on a task without considering the whole, and this makes us good project managers.
The first ITU Designers event took place in March, when two employees from Kunde & Co shared their experiences working with digital design at one of the largest Danish advertising agencies. Similar events will be plotted in the calendar, says Martin.
- We want to show our members what skills the industry demands and display the full range of what you can work with as a designer, from UX and physical products to marketing and digital design. Hopefully we can help students determine which direction they want go in.
ITU Designers would very much like to hear from companies that want to meet ITU's creative students.
