ITU appoints three professors in software
With the new professorships, ITU is strengthening its Software and Systems section.

As of August 1, the IT University of Copenhagen has appointed Kasper Støy, Philippe Bonnet and Andrzej Wasowski as professors in its Software and Systems section. All three were previously associate professors at ITU.
- We know that software is of enormous significance for value creation in Denmark. There is a need for many good software graduates and there is a need for IT research within software. At ITU, we have incredibly talented people within this area – all three professorships were openly advertised, and these three candidates were simply excellent. The appointments are the result of the long-term development of these three very strong researchers, says Vice Chancellor Mads Tofte.
Kasper Støy, Professor in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence
Kasper Støy predominately focuses on how the interplay between embodiment and control can be exploited to produce robust, cheap, and versatile robots. He has contributed to areas such as modular robots, multi-robot systems, artificial life, and behaviour-based robotics. Støy also focuses on innovation in the robotics domain and was the co-founder of Universal Robots A/S. Today he is CEO of Flow Robotics A/S, a newly founded spin-out from the IT University of Copenhagen.
Kasper Støy holds a PhD in computer systems engineering from University of Southern Denmark. He joined ITU in 2013 and has been a visiting scholar at University of Southern California, Harvard University and University of Tarapacá (Chile).

Philippe Bonnet, Professor in Data Systems
Phillippe Bonnet is an experimental computer scientist with a background in database systems. His research focuses on building and tuning data systems for performance and energy efficiency. His main interest lies in the evolution of data systems resulting from the convergence of network, storage and memory technologies. In recent years, Bonnet’s team has studied cross-layers optimizations for data systems running on flash-based solid state drives. Results include publications, patents, contributions to the Linux kernel and transfer to industry.
Philippe Bonnet holds a PhD from Université de Savoie and is a Marie Curie Fellow. He worked at ECRC (Germany), Bull (France), Cornell University (USA) and University of Copenhagen prior to joining the IT University of Copenhagen in 2009.

Andrzej Wasowski, Professor in Software Engineering
Andrzej Wasowski works with design and use of technologies that improve quality of software, including issues such as correctness and maintainability. He has worked extensively with software product line methods---ways to develop software for similar products at lower cost but with higher quality. He has collaborated with open source projects (the Linux kernel among others) and industry (for example with Danfoss). Currently, he is working on technical solutions to support software modernization, studying how old software can be moved to new platforms and how to restructure software without losing its properties.
Andrzej Wsowski holds an MSc degree from Warsaw University of Technology and a PhD from ITU. He also held positions at Aalborg University, INRIA Rennes (France) and University of Waterloo (Canada).
