The development of ICT is changing business in every corner of the society. With the establishment of the new research group, TIME, the IT University of Copenhagen is strengthening its efforts to become a leading institution in the areas of innovation, management and value creation with IT.

Technological developments and innovative use of digital technology is constantly challenging the way businesses and government institutions are organized and provide value. Hence it’s becoming increasingly important to understand the fundamental changes in order to face future challenges and to grab the opportunities.
From autumn 2015, a new research group, TIME, short for Technology Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, will support The IT University of Copenhagen’s efforts to become a leading institution in the areas of innovation, management, and value creation with IT. The group will be headed by professor Roman Beck who explains that new developments of ICT calls for new theories and models explaining the dynamic process and change in digitalized ecosystems:
“New actionable input for the development and management of new technologies is needed. Understanding of the new conditions created by the networked economies requires a concerted interdisciplinary effort that needs to go beyond the economics and management,“ professor Roman Beck says.
Three focus points
The purpose of TIME research group is to study the changes in the highly connected systems and their impact on the organizations and creation of innovations. Among the group’s interest are:
1. Governance and management of technology in highly interlinked and interdependent environment. This includes issues such as new leadership models, management across organization, new approaches to management of innovation processes and teams.
2. Processes and tools for innovation in the networked economies. For example, crowdsourcing tools for internal and external innovation, tools for user involvement in innovation, and the change of innovation processes, new roles and tasks of IT employees in the innovation process.
3. The interplay between technology use and technology development, including issues related to the adoption of technology and integration of the use experiences into the design of new technologies.
Multidisciplinary research
In order to holistically analyze the changing nature of work and the related challenges for organizational decision making, the TIME researchers cooperate with other academic disciplines such as linguistics, organizational psychology, and computer science, just to mention a few.
While the IT-driven changes affect all areas of society and industries, professor Roman Beck says that TIME members will most intensely cooperate with enterprises from service-intense sectors such as the finance sector, the health care sector, the public sector or the ICT industry itself.
“It is the belief of the TIME group that major scientific contributions can only be made in a collaborative, public private partnership and at the intersection between multiple disciplines” he says.
